Field Emergency Medicine / Practical
Considerations in a Field Environment
This two-day course will provide
participant's with an intensive review of expedient and proven field
treatments. Topics covered will include: bites & stings, preventative
immunizations, emerging infections, water purification and treatment
of waterborne diseases, heat/cold stress and collapse, diabetic emergencies,
key ingredients of a field medicine kit, wound repair & suturing
techniques including practical skills lab, treatment of gunshot wounds
including use/applications of Quick-Clot® and Heme-Con® and
Israeli-type tourniquets and battlefield dressings, and emergency
airway maneuvers including intubation and surgical airway access.
Field skills / practical labs will emphasize improvised splinting and
stabilization of fractures, wound management including expedient suturing,
extrication of the wounded, triage principles and practice, and rapid
recognition and immediate interventions of critical life threats.
